Travelling light is essential when it comes to a trip like this. We managed the whole time with only two small backpacks and the occasional shoulder bag for day walking.
Our packing strategy was shaped by a lack of a plan, not the other way around. As we started this trip off with little to no schedule or strict time frame, having less allowed us more freedom and flexibility. We didn't how many plans we would take, if any, and having only one bag meant no checked baggage or baggage fees. We weren't sure how many days we would have to walk with our bags so packing light meant that when we needed to carry them, they wouldn't limit us. Also, not knowing where we would go or when we would get there, we needed to pack smart, we didn't have room for single purpose or single use items. This is what we ended up bringing:
Clothing for one person
| Toiletry Kit (Shared)
MISCELLANEOUS items
|
This list looks a little long now that I have it written down, but it sure wasn’t when I was carrying it. The shared items were shifted between my partner and I and freed up space in our bags for the food we were occasionally carrying around with us.
Pretty consistanly we’d have instant coffee and powdered soup mix on hand, as well as bread, cheese, meat, or fruit, depending on the plans for the day.
