To get to the park from Victoria follow Hwy 1 North towards Nanaimo. Once you reach Duncan take a left turn onto Hwy 8 East and follow it for about 30-40 minutes toward Lake Cowichan. Hwy 18 will turn into Youbou Road and then N Shore Rd. Keep on N Shore Road as it turns into a gravel logging road lined with cottages. The road will Y and you will want to stay right, coming onto Cowichan Main. Stay on Cowichan Main even if Google Maps says to take Cowichan Hookup because the road has been deactivated, is overgrown, and is no longer a connecting route. Make a left at the T onto Mainline Carmanah (there will be small signs for the park at turns to help you on your way but they are sometimes hard to see). Your final turn is a right/straight turn onto Rosander Main. This will lead you to the parking lot and from there signs will point you to the trail and campground.
These sections of trail were easy and flat, though slippery in the winter months and some sections were in disarray with pieces of the board walk missing. A great trail for kids, but not accessible for persons with limited mobility or strollers. Past the Three Sister Trees the park website warns that the trail is not maintained and is quite muddy year round.
A couple sections where the trail has been pulled apart by fallen trees. Walking around these sections was easy though, so dont fret.
On top of that the huge Sitka Spruce were amazing to behold, some boasting over 95 metres in height and being over 800 years old.
